There’s a new face at the Day Services Center!
Jayden Hitzelberger is Roof Above’s Davidson Impact Fellow this year. She graduated from Davidson College in May of 2023 and will be working at Roof Above for 12 months with Director of Community Education, Joe Hamby. You may also see her working at the DSC front desk or other volunteer stations throughout the week.
Since starting at the Day Services Center about two months ago, Jayden has learned a lot. She finds her perspectives evolving via the relationships she’s formed with neighbors. Within her short piece in Joe Hamby’s latest 2×4, she says, “Depending on where you live or work, you’ve probably noticed the rise and fall of small encampments, inhabited by individuals experiencing homelessness in Charlotte.” She describes the potential for harm that the criminalization of camping on public property can create, and says, “On your next commute to work, take a moment to observe how the environment around you changes from day to day. There may be more to these changes than what meets the eye.”
