Season of Hope Invitation
Will you join us for a Season of Hope? Between now and the end of the year, we will be sharing weekly content that explores the many facets of hope.
This isn’t meant to be prescriptive. There are multiple entry points into this invitation: Moments of inspiration and response on social media. Minutes or more, with a weekly blog post, where you sit quietly and ponder one of the prompts. A month of hope in action. Make this season of hope the reflection that you need.
Week 1: Season of Hope
Hi, I’m Nicole Ayers, Roof Above’s Director of Communications. That’s a fancy way of saying I have the privilege of being one of Roof Above’s storyteller.
One day early this year, I literally tripped over a “rock of hope” on my way into work at our Day Services Center. Hope became our theme for 2024. Over the past year, my team has wrestled with the idea of hope and how it translates into our work to end homelessness in Charlotte.
We find hope in action every day, on every Roof Above campus. Sometimes it is the quiet whisper of someone taking one more step toward housing. Other days it is the roar of someone turning the key in their front door for the first time. We learn from our neighbors and our team that hope is not neat or simple, and it is not magic. Hope demands action.
What we heard throughout the year from our teammates was that the work is hard, but that there is also hope that we can, and will, end homelessness, one life at a time. Perhaps the most profound hope is that of our neighbors experiencing homelessness, who show up to seek help and community, acting on the belief that their lives can improve.
Reflect on Hope
Watch the “Hope Roars at Roof Above” video (2 min.), then reflect on the questions below it.
Questions to Ponder
- What does hope mean to you?
- What does hope mean to you in the context of ending homelessness?
Invitation to Act in Hope
Will you join our recurring donors? Recurring donors help us sustain our work to end homelessness, day to day, and every dollar amount helps! Your monthly gift of $5, $20, or the amount the fits your budget will truly make a difference.
November is National Homelessness Awareness Month. Our hope is to add one new recurring donor for each day of the month. When you sign up to give, you get to choose the date of your first gift (1st – 30th).
