Where We Stand 3 Months After the Storm

October 14, 2026

The Lesson of Patience

It has been three months since the early morning of July 7, when a portion of the roof at our Day Services Center collapsed, following a torrential downpour. Thanks to this community, our doors—and our services—never closed.

We are learning much from the repair process and one of our lessons is patience! The repair process has many stages, and we have been working with insurance throughout.

  • The initial mitigation efforts, related to water damage (completed shortly after the damage ocurred)
  • The installation of a temporary roof to ensure the stability of the building (just completed this week!)
  • The final repair, which we anticipate will be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

In the meantime, we are also looking for the silver lining in the storm damage by identifying additional opportunities for improvements that we can make to the Hub building to meet the growing needs of our community, while the building is already offline.

Thanks to you, our services never stopped

Starting on the day of the damage, this community’s support allowed us to relocate staff and programs into our adjacent historic Depot Building and minimize disruptions for the neighbors who depend on us. Here are some details of what we have accomplished together — none of this happens without a cadre of faithful volunteers!

  • Refrigerator trucks, catered meals, thousands of bagged lunches prepared by this community, and the ingenuity of our kitchen team have ensured lunch is served daily.
  • A partnership with Hope Haven has allowed us to continue to offer free laundry services.
  • Mobile showers have actually increased our shower capacity.
  • Housing navigation, nursing care, ID clinics, and coordinated entry continue, albeit in close quarters.
  • The addition of two sound-proof phone booths have provided our neighbors a place to make a private phone call in the middle of a busy lobby, and we continue to provide charging for mobile phones.
  • Mail services never stopped

To our community

Thank you for answering the call when we needed you, for believing in our work to end homelessness, and for standing with our unsheltered neighbors in need. We could not do this without you.
