Fair Housing Policy

It is the policy of Roof Above and its employees to comply with Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act and the Fair Housing Act. As such, Roof Above provides housing opportunities to all eligible participants regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status, or any other protected class in accordance with applicable state or local law. Roof Above and its agents and employees do not discriminate against any eligible participants or applicants based on protected status, Roof Above will, among others, affirmatively: :(1) market the program to all eligible persons, including persons with disabilities and persons with limited English proficiency; (2) make buildings and communications that facilitate applications and service delivery accessible to persons with disabilities (see, for example, HUD’s rule on effective communications at 24 CFR 8.6); (3) provide fair housing counseling services or referrals to fair housing agencies; (4) inform participants of how to file a housing discrimination complaint, including providing the toll-free number for the Housing Discrimination Hotline: 1-800- 669-9777; and (5) recruit landlords and service providers in areas that expand housing choice to program participants.

This Policy further prohibits any form of harassment or discrimination based on the protected classes identified above. Words or conduct that are related to any protected category and are offensive to a reasonable person are prohibited and a violation of policy.

Applicants and participants are encouraged to report any violation of this Policy to Chief Program Officer, Kaedon Grinnell at krinnell@roofabove.org. No retaliatory action will be taken against someone who reasonably, and in good faith, assists or participates in any investigation, proceeding, or hearing relating to a harassment or a discrimination complaint.
